Welcome to the Huntingdon, Peterborough & Cambridge Multiple Sclerosis Centre.
We are a Huntingdon based charity (charity no. 800849) affiliated to the Federation of National Therapy Centres. We provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients and those with other illnesses who feel they may benefit from our facilities. Many people, especially the newly diagnosed can feel isolated and confused by what the future holds and our friendly team of staff and volunteers are always ready to talk and offer advice and understanding.
The Centre in Huntingdon was founded in 1985, in 2002 it moved to a larger purpose designed building, enabling a greater range of treatments to be offered to people from Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties. The centre does not have any transport available, but anyone who can get here is welcome.
Multiple sclerosis is an incurable and unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. It can strike anybody, at any time and its cause is still unknown. As with all chronic illnesses, the problems are both physical and emotional and the severity of the symptoms varies.
Obvious symptoms include loss of co-ordination, visual disturbance, bladder problems and difficulty with movement. Emotional problems arise from the uncertainties associated with MS. The disease is usually characterised by attacks, followed by periods of remission, although each attack tends to leave residual problems, however some people suffer from a more continuously progressive form of the disease. The unpredictable nature of the illness means that no-one knows how or when it will strike or how long the symptoms will last. As a result, financial and social difficulties may arise and great stress may be experienced by both the MS patients and their families. It can be difficult to know where to turn for help, there are things that can be done and the Huntingdon, Peterborough & Cambridge MS therapy Centre can help.
